Pure, traditional and chemical-free - wooden ghana oil
Appa Oil stands on the foundation of ancestral farming, timely adoption of new technology, and organic principles. Everything at home was pure and natural: organic vegetables, farm-grown grains, and above all - wooden ghana oil from our own peanuts. The food cooked from all of this, by our grandmother's hands… its aroma alone would make you hungry!
Our grandmother - a strong, self-reliant woman - passed away in her 107th year. Her life was simple, chemical-free and healthy. After she left, traditional wooden ghana oil stopped in the house and refined oil use increased; but the farm stayed purely organic as per her principles.
Within a few years it became clear that even younger people were suffering from joint pain, BP, heart attacks - issues that were rare in our grandmother's time. The search led to one cause: refined oil.
Because refined oil is cheap and easy, traditional ghana oil had disappeared from many homes. The conviction grew: to protect health, tradition must be brought back with the support of modern technology.
"In the refining process, heat and chemicals reduce nutrients; that is why we prefer the traditional wooden ghana (cold-pressed) method."
Appa trained in Nashik in machine operation, equipment and process care. He studied the difference between wooden ghana (cold-pressed) and refined oil through comparative study of various ghanas and oils.
He then visited Tamil Nadu to see different ghanas and had durable, appealing wooden ghanas custom-made. Then came the day - 18 August 2018, Kedarwadi (Walwa taluka, Sangli) - when the journey of purity began. From the very roots: two ghanas, buying peanuts, extracting oil, separating the cake… the entire process by hand.
The family stood firmly behind him - his wife Usha and son Ashutosh. Everyone learned the process and joined the business shoulder to shoulder. During Covid, awareness about immunity grew and we promoted the idea of changing oil with the season - groundnut, sunflower, sesame (white/black), coconut, safflower, almond, walnut - each oil with its own benefit; the cake too is useful.
Today Appa Oil - pure wooden ghana oil is no longer limited to Kedarwadi; it has found a place in kitchens and in the health of many homes across Maharashtra. And now we are at Peth Naka, NH-48 - trust and wellness, closer to you!
Extracted using traditional wooden ghana keeping temperatures between 35–45°C. This gentle process ensures every vitamin and antioxidant stays completely intact.
Zero solvents. Zero preservatives. Zero bleaching agents. What goes in is only the finest seed — what comes out is 100% pure oil.
No harsh machine filters. We let the oil settle naturally so impurities sink to the bottom, collecting only the pure, golden top layer directly into clean steel vessels.
"रिफाइन्ड प्रक्रियेत उष्णता व रसायनांमुळे पोषण घटक कमी होतात — म्हणूनच आम्ही लाकडी घाण्याला प्राधान्य देतो."
The need for pure oil for the family led to starting with a small wooden ghana. The aim was simple - adulteration-free wellness.
Village response grew. The feedback - "This oil reminds us of grandmother's hand-cooked food" - became our strength.
Demand grew for groundnut plus safflower, coconut and sesame oil. We started buying produce directly from farmers.
Appa Oil was no longer just for the village. With modern packaging and the same traditional taste, we reached the highway.
To bring chemical-free oil to every Indian kitchen.
